Persistence of the biocide activity of atrazine in soils of the southeast of Buenos Aires Province Planta Daninha
Delmonte,A.A.; Bedmar,F.; Mantecón,J.D.; Echeverría,H.; Barassi,C.A..
Atrazine persistence in soils of the southeast of Buenos Aires Province, was studied by an oat bioassay. Atrazine doses of 0.58, 1.16, and 2.32 mg.g-1 dry soil weight (DSW) were applied to pots containing soils from Balcaree, A. Gonzáles Chaves and San Cayetano sites, whose organic matter (OM) content of soils were 5.70, 5.15, and 3,84%, respectively. Avena sativa cv. Millauquén plants were grownth in the pots under greenhouse conditions at different times after atrazine application. Shoots were evenly cut above the soil and dry weight determined as a measure of plant growth. Plants grown in non-sprayed soil were used as controls. Relative dry weight (RDW) of shoots was calculated as percentage of control. Atrazine phytotoxicity was expressed in terms of...

Requesens,E.; Moran,C.; Pasqualini,A.; Nuciari,M..

Diversity of genomic electropherotypes of naturally occurring equine herpesvirus 1 isolates in Argentina BJMBR
Galosi,C.M.; Norimine,J.; Echeverría,M.G.; Oliva,G.A.; Nosetto,E.O.; Etcheverrigaray,M.E.; Tohya,Y.; Mikami,T..
The genomes of 10 equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) strains isolated in Argentina from 1979 to 1991, and a Japanese HH1 reference strain were compared by restriction endonuclease analysis. Two restriction enzymes, BamHI and BglII, were used and analysis of the electropherotypes did not show significant differences among isolates obtained from horses with different clinical signs. This suggests that the EHV-1 isolates studied, which circulated in Argentina for more than 10 years, belong to a single genotype.

The Berriasian genus Groebericeras in Argentina and the problem of its age Naturalis
Aguirre-Urreta, M.B.; Alvarez, P.P..
Groebericeras bifrons Leanza is described from the Chacao Formation of central Mendoza and the Lo Valdés Formation of central Chile. The species appears limited to the Argentiniceras noduliferum Zone, which is traditionally placed in the lower Berriasian. Spanish records of Groebericeras appear to be younger (Hoedemaeker, 1982), while Groebericeras from Iraq were placed in the late Berriasian by comparison with the Spanish records (Howarth, 1992).

Long-distance correlations in the Valanginian-Hauterivian: Argentina - Western Mediterranean - NW Europe Naturalis
Rawson, P.F..
Despite the considerable differences in faunas from three widely separated areas in the Early Cretaceous world (Argentina, the Mediterranean area and NW Europe) eight genera are common to all three: Valanginites, Olcostephanus, Karakaschiceras, Neohoploceras, Neocomites, Oosterella, Spitidiscus, and Crioceratites. Across two well-marked intervals (mid Valanginian and mid Hauterivian) the faunas are sufficiently close to allow correlation across the whole area. These represent intervals of global sealevel rise.

Meiofauna communities from the Straits of Magellan and the Beagle Channel OMA
Chen, G.T.; Herman, R.L.; Vincx, M..
Meiofauna from 20 stations (ranging between 8 and 550 m) in the Magellan Straits and the Beagle Channel revealed 28 small sized taxa of higher categories including the temporary meiofauna. Nematoda, Copepoda Harpacticoidea and Polychaeta occurred in all samples; Turbellaria, Bivalvia, Kinorhyncha and Ostracoda were regularly present. Nematodes represented between 68% and 94% of the meiofauna at each station, followed by the copepods (2.3% to 14.5%) and polychaetes (1.1% to 11.5%). Maximal total density, 9700 individuals 10 cm(-2), was found in the surroundings of Picton Island, while the mean abundance per station was 3374 individuals 10 cm(-2). The vertical pattern within the sediment showed that 87% of meiofauna components concentrated in the upper 0-5...

Potential for Carbon Forest Plantations in Marginal Timber Forests: The Case of Patagonia, Argentina AgEcon
Sedjo, Roger A..
With the advent of the Kyoto Protocol and its recognition of the use of forestry activities and carbon sinks as acceptable tools for addressing the issue of the build-up of atmospheric carbon, the potential role of planted forests as a vehicle for carbon sequestration has taken on a new significance. Additionally, the emergence of tradable emission permits and now tradable carbon offsets provides a vehicle for financially capturing the benefits of carbon emission reductions and carbon offsetting activities. In a world where carbon sequestration has monetary value, investments in planted forests can be made with an eye to revenues to (at least two) joint outputs: timber and the carbon sequestration services. The first section of this paper examines the...
